New Edition hoping to help out Zombie defense

With an embarrassing defeat at the hands of the Springfield Tenderfeet, the board at Downtown has decided to purchase a new edition the the defense. The board decided to purchase Jarmo Utriainen. The 19 year old Finnish youngster is hoping to bring some youth to the team. The scouts of Downtown saw some raw talent and are hoping to sculpt the youngster into a solid defender. Utriainen has no experience in the senior league. Due to Downtown purchasing Utiainen in the middle of the Cheesehead Cup, he will not be eligible to play until they play The Halestorm.  The coach of Downtown gave this statement at the announcement of Jarmo,

We are very embarrassed her at Downtown. The lost to Springfield was totally unexpected. We attempted a new formation to combat Springfield’s midfield domination, but were unsuccessful. We are truly sorry to our fans and are doing everything in our power to give a better showing for the rest of the tournament. We understand that this is a huge set back and we expect nothing but an up hill battle against Jotunheim. We are hoping that we can squeeze out a win and have Jarmo help us out for the rest of the tournament.

Downtown will face Jotunheim who is coming off a 5-1 win of the new comer Halestorm. Jotunheim showed a dominating offense at their opener. Downtown will certainly have a hard time with Jotunheim’s astounding defense and strong offense. Things are not looking good for Downtown and their Zombie followers. Only time will tell what the future holds for them.

Tenderfeet, Wanderers roll past competition

In the first round of the third annual Cheesehead Cup The Springfield Tenderfeet and Jotunheim Wanderers proved how determined they are to win this tournament. Both teams were able to put away five goals against their opponents. No other team in Cheesehead Cup history has scored that many goals in a single match.

Jotunheim took on The Halestorm in the tournament opener. By the end of the first half the score was 2-1 in favor of Jotunheim, however the Halestorm had possessed the ball over 55 percent of the half. In the second half, the Wanderers unleashed their forward Mario Neglia who scored a tournament first hattrick. The scorers from the Wanderers were Neglia, Madsen, Rokeberg. The lone scorer was Dias Paes of the Halestrom. The Wanderers showed the new comer The Halestorm that they will need to be much more prepared if they want to be competitive in this tournament. The Jotunheim Wanderers will play last year’s champions, The Downtown Imprints. The Imprints are coming off a lost to The Springfield Tenderfeet.

The Springfield Tenderfeet blew past the reigning champs, the Downtown Imprints 5-0. The Tenderfeet proved very impressive by keeping the mighty attack of the Imprints scorless. The Imprints tried a new tactic to control the midfield against the Tenderfeet, but in the end back fired on them. The Imprints tried a new formation that focused more on attack, which left their defense open to the strong attack of the Tenderfeet. The Tenderfeet possessed the ball for over 60 percent of the entire game. The scorers for the Tenderfeet were Barranger, Mackenzie, Rolfi, Vigneron. Vigneron scored twice against the small Imprints defense. The Tenderfeet appear to be determined to bring the Cheesehead Cup back to Springfield. If they are able to keep this scoring trend, they may just be able to do it. The Tenderfeet will take on the new comer, The Halestorm in the second round of the tournament.

Stay tuned for more news to come.

Cheesehead to begin early

It’s Christmas come early for soccer fans. Managers and coaches have agreed to collaborate and go ahead with the tournament early. This will be the first tournament with the new young team The Halestorm. The other managers decided to vote the young team in when they noticed the impressive wingers and success of the team. The matches will go underway on 3/27/2012. The returning champs Downtown Imprints will take on the Springfield Tenderfoots. The Tenderfoots won the first ever Cheesehead Cup and look to bring the Cup back to their fans. Downtown narrowly won last years Cheesehead Cup on goal differential. This looks to be a great first match. Of the previous times these two teams have played, the Tenderfoot’s seem to be a better team on paper and have proven that with a record against Downtown at 3-1. During those three wins, the first one was a blow out 5-0 and the next two were narrowly won by a score of 4-3. The players to keep your eyes on will be the Tenderfoot’s Sam Mackenzie and Downtown’s Cengizhan Birdal. One thing is for sure, it looks to be a good match and Downtown will have to come ready to play to push through the dominating midfield of the Tenderfoots.

The Tenderfoot’s purchased a new German defender, Mario Mersdorf. Mersdorf was bought from a Welsh league where the 26 year old German did not have a good showing. The Tenderfoot’s are taking a chance purchasing the German while injured. It looks as if the Tenderfoot’s are attempting to add to the already well balanced team. The Tenderfoot’s have fairly big risk with a grand amount of money, Mersdorf will look to be ready by the Cheesehead Cup.

The other game will pit Jotunheim Wanderer’s against the newly added Halestorm. The Halestorm look to show themselves worthy of being added to this tournament. The Halestorm are a young team and may have trouble with the seasoned Wanderer’s. The Wanderer’s have a nearly impenetrable defense led by Sergio Costa Rocha. The Wanderer’s have shown some missteps in the previous Cheesehead Cup’s. They have always played well, but not well enough to bring home the trophy. Manager S. Ragnarsson is hoping to change that this time around. The Halestorm’s spokesperson stated in a press conference that The Halestorm are looking to be competitive in their first appearance.

We understand that the other teams have more experience in tournament play and have been around a little longer than us. We hope to prove as a worth opponent and use the experience to better our team. We will go in for a win and do not look to get defeated easy. We play to win.

Their is a lot riding on this tournament and will be exciting. Better look to get your tickets now before all of the games are sold out.

The Halestorm on a Hot Streak!

The Halestorm took on Mohamed9 and continued to show that they will be a force to be reckoned with. The Halestorm rolled pass Mohamed9 11-0. The Halestorm dominated with nearly 80 percent of the possession. The Halestorm collected goals from Marvin Leroux, Samuele Fuliano, Evan Stefanelli, Steve Rose, Enrico Giaimo, Marjin Smolders, Carlos Elias Fragoso, and Rinaldo Dias Pases. It was a laundry list of goal scorers. Cristian-Sorin Radu had a really great game leading the team to victory. The winger, Radu, has really stepped up and tried to steer the team on a winning path. Radu is coming off an injury, but was still able to step up his play and show why he is the captain of the Halestorm. The Halestorm remain atop of their league table tied with FC Earlham Lefties. Both have 9 points. The Halestorm take on the third place Florida Sons in their next league match.

The Jotunheim Wanderers took on Texas Flames in a one sided game. Jotunheim shut out the Flames 4-0 and kept possession of the ball nearly 70 percent of the match. Jotunheim scorers consisted of Mauro Neglia, Jesper Madsen, Paul Bjorkell, and Kenneth Hostrup. Jotunheim’s power striker Leroy “Jenkins” Wilson was injured in the 40th min and was eventually taken out in the 73rd min. Wilson appeared to only to have a minor injury and was later reported that he will be eligible to play their next match. Jesper Madsen had a really good game playing up top for Jotunheim. Jotunheim’s defense also played well cumulatively keeping the Flames shut out. Jotunheim’s newly acquired forward Zack Escamilla  didn’t have the greatest game in the short time while he was on the pitch. Jotunheim’s manager S. Ragnarsson stated in an early press announcement that they expected Escamilla to not play tip top from the get go and are going to allow him time to regain his form back. Jotunheim also remain atop of their league table. Jotunheim will take on third place Black Africa. It is shaping up to be a great game.

The Springfield Tenderfoot’s took on The Millstone Revolutionaries and quickly showed why they won the first Cheesehead Cup. The Tenderfoot’s kept possession for nearly 90 percent of the match. Some questioned if Millstone’s team had gone out drinking the night before. Millstone should have just forfeited some fans of Millstone stated. The Tenderfoot’s won 7-0. The reported scorers were Rodney Platt, Pietro Luca Rolfi, Kevin Barranger, Victorino Barco, Rune Vigneron, and Sam Mackenzie. Sam Mackenzie had yet another tip top game for the Tenderfoots. Mackenzie’s goal kept him as the top scorer in the league with 4 goals. The Tenderfoot’s fans hope that the dominating winger will keep his scoring ways to keep them at the top of the league and to bring the Cheesehead Cup back to original winners.

Downtown Imprints too on Cristal PSSP in a one sided match. Downtown kept possession of the ball for almost 80 percent of the game. Downtown rolled past Cristal 8-0. The scorers for Downtown were Jerome Haynes, Alfred Kuranowski, Mario Brugiotti, newly acquired Fabian Leijongren, Cengizhan Bridal, and Stephan Grabec. The match was completely sold out and most of the area was shut down for the game. Downtown remain tied with Back Pocket Bandits at first place with 9 points each. Birdal again had a most impressive game. Birdal has three goals in the league and is close to the top of the league scorers. Birdal was the leader of a solid central offense.

Its easy to lead an offense like this with players like Popescu, Martins, and Haynes backing you up and stepping up and scoring goals and setting up goals. We are having a good start so far and I only see us getting better, said Birdal.

Downtown take on Maj3stiks next in their season. Fans are already expecting a win against Maj3stiks. Downtown fans are expecting Cedars Ever Green to push past the Back Pocket Bandits which would put Downtown at the top of the league by themselves. Downtown will look to keep their scoring ways throughout the season and hopefully into the Cheesehead Cup.

In other breaking news, The Halestorm have signed young Danish midfielder Benjamin Brondum to their team. Brondum known as a passing specialist will bring some youth to the central midfield of The Halestorm. Brondum doesn’t have much experience and will look to develop over the years with the Halestorm.

Downtown signs new Midfielder

Downtown recently signed new Swedish midfielder Fabian Leijongren from FC Korlinka Sokola for nearly 142,000 dollars.

Leijongren will make a great addition to our midfield. He will really help out our central attack and keeping possession during the Cheesehead Cup, said coach Dan Gundersen

Leijongren will be joining an already decent midfield. Leijongren will be joining the liked of Kuranowski, McDiarmid, and Haynes. Leijongren will be adding some youth to the team as Kuanowski and McDiarmid are approaching thirty years of age.

A lead trainer of Downtown Imprints advised that Leijongren is more of a passing specialist and will bring some life the the midfield. He is already a solid midfielder and reminds me of David Beckham as he can put the ball on a dime. We are excited to get him in the lineup and use to our central attack.

Rumors have filled the Zombie Amphitheater that a midfielder will be chosen to sell due to the addition of Leijongren. Kuranowski and McDiarmid will be the obvious choices due to their age. Haynes only being 23 years old has a longer career ahead of him and will prove more valuable than the other two veterans. It promises to be an exciting and dramatic time for the Imprints. More details will follow as it comes available.

Downtown on a Roll

Downtown took on AMMO on 3/5/2012 at AMMO’s stadium. It was a cloudy day, but that didn’t stop the fans to cheer on their favorite players. Downtown took advantage of their experience over AMMO. Downtown scored early and often to lead them to a 8-0 win, which leaves them 2-0 in the series. Downtown was lead by Birdal and their new found Central Defender Kahraman Bulut. Bulut scored a hattrick in his first appearance for Downtown. Many were skeptical due to Bulut being older and not having good reviews from past teams. Bulut showed to be valuable in the game against AMMO keeping them shut out and showing that he can put the ball in the back of the net. Kuranowski, Bulut, McDiarmid, Birdal, and Martins were all noted down as scoring goals. Downtown’s captain Burgiotti was injured in the 64th minute. It has been announced that Burgiotti will be available sometime next week and will be able to play. Downtown will face off against Cristal next week. Cristal is 0-1-1 with one point. Jotunheim played Real Athletico in a close match. The heavily defensive team dominated Real with sixty percent of the possession. Jotunheim were able to easily fend off all attacks from Real. Jotunheim’s defense is becoming renowned for keeping teams shut out. Jotunheim’s star striker Madsen scored the lone goal in the 79th minute. Jotunheim are know second in their series to Rock Creek Park due to goal differential. Jotunheim still promise to be a dominating force in their series and threaten to leave the other competitors in the Cheesehead Cup scoreless.

The Springfield Tenderfeet took on Fuduhimm in a series game. The Tenderfeet kept Fuduhimm scoreless in their 5-0 victory. Tenderfeet’s Allstar Sam Mackenzie scored twice leading the Tenderfeet in the victory. Barranger also scored twice in the victory. Pietro Luca Rolfi also buried one in the back of the net. The Tenderfeet held possession for in impressive 60 percent of the match. This win keeps the Tenderfeet atop their league with a 2-0 record. It’s apparent that the Halestorm’s wing.  HT adviser’s predicted the Halestrom’s wing attack to be the up and coming players to watch. The star winger for the Halestorm is Cristian-Sorin Radu. Although Radu was injured for the game against Thinkel Thankel, Radu will be returning to lead the Halestorm against Mohamed9 at the Halestorm’s venue. Keep an eye on their wings, or you may miss history in the making one anaylist  said.

US Cup No More

Downtown, along with several other teams, have been eliminated from the US Cup. Downtown took on an impressive Colorado Springs Crushers team. The Crushers dominated the game with nearly 60% possession in both halves. The Crushers came out and proved their point early in the game when Oliver Rafael scored in the fourteenth minute. Downtown was able to defend off another goal until the thirty ninth minute when Umberto Costa scored. Herbert Corley was the next to score for the Crushers in the 77th minute. A brilliant strike from Downtown’s Cengizhan Birdal did little to save face in the 88th min to bring back the score to 3-1. The Crusher’s Herbert Corley  quickly eliminated any dreams Downtown had by scoring just shortly after Birdal making the final score of the game 4-1. The Crushers move on in the US CUP and Downtown is out and will go back to playing friendly games. The returning Cheesehead Cup champions will look to show an impressive front in this years tournament.

Jotunheim played Richmond Ramspur. Richmond possessed the ball nearly 70% of the match. Jaaknoaho and Godinez both scored two goals for the dominating Richmond team. Locklear and  Felix also scored for the dominating squad. Jesper Madsen had a particularly good game for the Jotunheim side. Manager Shizza appeared to be impressed with how his defense was playing, but were still no match for a dominating Richmond side. Manager Shizza advised that he will now have his team prepping for the Cheesehead Cup. Jotunheim has made several good acquisitions to their team and look to be a dominating force in the Cheesehead Cup.

The Springfield Tenderfeet’s had a close game with Hashemi Law FC. Hashemi appeared to have the majority of possession. It was a fairly close game with both teams having limited amount of chances on goal. It wasn’t until the 71st min when Pantoia scored breaking the deadlock. Van Vuuren appeared to put the last nail in the coffin in the 73rd min that made it 2-0. The Tenderfeet had little consolation when Rolfi buried  one in the back of the net. The match ended 2-1. Tenderfeet were also eliminated from the US CUP and will no doubt also be looking forward to the Cheesehead CUP. The Tenderfeet won the very first Cheesehead Cup and look to win it again at the end of this season.

The Halestorm appeared to have better luck winning against Team Discovery Channel. The Halestorm possessed the ball nearly 55% of the game. Seix and Fuliano were noted down as the goal scorers in the match. The Halestorm’s midfield and offense appeared to be the deciding factor in the matchup. Discovery Channel’s offence did little in the way of setting up chances. Team Discovery Channel will battle against The Halestorm again next week. Only then will we see if the teams will make adjustments to their lineups.

More to follow as more news is relayed.
