Four weeks ago: FC Rünenberg played the final game in the second edition of the ‘League of Legends’-Tournament. It was the second time they reached the final and they lost it for the second time with only one goal less. On the same day the management singed to compete within the HTUM Challenge Trophy, a tournament with sixteen teams from all over the world and out of different domestic league levels. We have lost confidence when the groups were announced because of which teams we had to play against. The team has won against two of them already within the Golden League, yes, but playing them in a tournament, where they would send the best of the best on the pitch? All right, we have won against VFJ in the first edition of the LOL-Tournament, but to be honest it needed quite a big portion of luck. We won’t have any ambitions against Super Troopers FC, Krosnianka Karpaty Krosno and Vi Flæsker jer.

Let’s provide you with some facts about the teams:

After the close defeat against Super Troopers FC (0-1) and the great win against Krosnianka (3-1) the last match day in the group stage has to decide if VFJ or FCR will play the quarter final. It seemed like the Coach was happy what the team reached so far, but there is space for more:

Who though that we would be able to compete for playing the quarters? It was a close encounter the last time we played against VFJ, and Eugenio Cioccarelli was the man in charge to decide it. There have been some voices that mentioned that it was a lucky victory at all. This time it will be a close encounter again and the better team will win, maybe the luckier one, who knows. But anyway, we’re still competing, and that’s the most important thing!

They needed ten minutes within the first half to take an advantage of two goals. No, we’re not talking about VFJ, it was Rünenberg who scored twice between minute 24 and 34! The score was opened by Dölf Bilon – whom else? – with a penalty-kick. Only a few minutes later he served Eugenio Cioccarelli with an excellent cross, but Eugenio missed the goal. Nik Zenger made it better when he turned a free kick to account! VFJ, obviously using the counter tactic, had two chances before the break and Skipanes took one of them to shorten the score.

The two teams equalized each other in the midfield during the second half, therefore it took twenty minutes before something remarkable happened, and it was a big mistake of defender Preobraženski that brought Eugenio Cioccarelli in the fine position to raise the score, but his shot missed the goal close. VFJ had some chances to balance the score, but they missed all of them. That’s the reason why the final score-line was 1-2, which means that the Gold Rushers are playing the quarterfinal! At the end there was a very happy Loïc Genhart standing all alone on the pitch enjoying the ambiance:

He starts whistling the songs melody and strolled away. We think there is nothing more to say. Next Monday our guys will face Horus Falcons again. It was a must-be: they met three times in tournaments already. They played a group-stage game, a semi-final and a final; they had to meet in the quarters. This must be destiny!
