Gins Win 10th Time In A Row

With a new club record, 10 wins in a row, Jenever had a fantastic Sunday evening. With true belief the Gins won 1-5 at the Temple of Doom, leaving EFC without a chance. Striker Geri von Graffenried was man of the match, netting two goals and providing one assist.

The start of this season is great. 3 league games played, 9 points and still in the Cup. But manager John Burke stays realistic and points out to the easy program the club has had so far: “We’re doing great, but no-one has really tested us so far. We don’t have to wait long for that however, as a better team will visit us next Sunday. I’m anxious to see where we really stand.”

Tikkie Terug United 0 Jenever FC 9: Match Report

Although this wasn’t a major statement of intent by Jenever FC, it certainly was a performance of collective urgency and frequent individual excellence.

Lukas Dijkhuizen looked every inch an international-class wingback, Geri von Graffenried was outstanding between the boxes and Misja Rus capped one of his best displays with three league goals for the club.

All have to be seen in the right perspective, Tikkie Terug United wasn’t capable of giving the Gins a hard time. But it’s always better to kick-off a season with a victory then a loss, like last year, when Jenever were defeated at home (3-4 vs Havanclubjr). Geri ‘the Goal-riot’ von Graffenried was an important factor in the 0-9 win, scoring four goals and producing a couple of assists. He’s on his way of becoming Jenever’s all time club top scorer.

Jenever secured their sixth away win of the season in impressive style at the Havanaclubjr Arena as they won comfortably against a though Havana. Jenever had the game’s outstanding performers in Graffenried and Dijkhuizen. Graffenried scoring his 12th goal of the season and making him top scorer, Dijkhuizen doubled his career goal total after scoring 4 league and 2 cup goals this year.

A fantastic end to a terrific season for the Gins as they finish runner up in division V.135. The team stayed unbeaten on the road and played their best match in history last week. Manager John Burke was smiling after the game and was proud of his lads:

“We really overachieved this season, but we deserved it! Hard work and discipline were the key factors in our success this year, I’m no Mourinho, thank god… main thing is now to hold on to this level, but we expect a difficult season to come, as we have no money to strenghten our team.”

Regular Season Coming To An End

The regular season is coming to an end and the Gins know they will finish it as runner up. Although this achievement after promotion last season is huge (manager, fans and press predicited an immediate relegation for Jenever), there’s still some disappointment. After seven games Jenever were on top of the table and had just kicked the other big title contender’s ass (0-4 away victory vs Victor Roma). But then all went wrong…

Three games followed and Jenever only grabbed one point, letting Roma Victor slip and falling back to the number two position. The dissatisfaction among the players grew with an incident during topscorer Geri von Graffenried’s substitution as the absolute climax. Both player and manager threw a water bottle at eachother following a tactical substitution which forced Geri to leave the pitch. Both men were fined by the club and Geri was banned from the starting XI for two games.

After a firm talk between players and staff the team regained their focus. Unfortunately Roma was out of sight but in the following three games the Gins gathered the full nine points, played their best match in Jenever’s history and secured the second place. With one game left (away to Havanaclubjr) and nothing left to play for, we can already say this season was a huge performance.
