Rúnar Lúðvíksson reports on the transfer activity at Tundra Park
He may have sacked caretaker manager Kurt Ingram after the coach played an outfield player as keeper in Axle’s last league game, but it seems Jonas Solskín shares the hapless coach’s opinion of Jasper Kenny, the only keeper available to Ingram at the time. Kenny was the first player to leave, released on a free transfer hot on the heels of Ingram, as Solskín ‘strengthened’ his team with nine youngsters yesterday. Despite announcements that there would be no major investment in the first team at this time, and certainly no youth academy, eight of nine players coming in are under 20 and all, it would seem, are destined to be thrust into first team action sooner rather than later. The total cash outlay was ‘under £15,000′ according to official sources, so don’t expect much in the way of quality, although Solskín stated each player was better than the one they would be replacing – not difficult, by current standards at the club.
Solskín, skimming through his Official FA Cliché QuoteBook, has also indicated other players are for the chop, as he trims his squad back:
I’m going to start from scratch – after looking at the team in training, there will be wholesale changes. We need quality all over the park. But I’ll only bring in lads who improve the overall quality. The boys we’ve brought in will add to that, but there is a long way to go. If you look at results over the past twenty seasons, it’s clear we’ve not had footballers here at all. They weren’t only making up the numbers, they were making up the rules. No clue. Shocking. They’ve been giving minus 110% but from now on, they’ll work for their place and the small amount of money we can pay them.
