18-year-old to make debut in Gladbach goal in absence of Nicolas and Omlin?

With both Moritz Nicolas and Jonas Omlin unavailable, 18-year-old Tiago Pereira Cardoso could make his senior debut in goal this weekend, potentially edging out the seasoned Tobias Sippel.

Borussia Mönchengladbach faces a significant goalkeeping dilemma ahead of their Bundesliga showdown with Heidenheim.

Moritz Nicolas has been out for months, and his stand-in, Jonas Omlin, received a red card in Saturday’s 3-0 loss to Augsburg, earning a one-match suspension.

Veteran keeper Tobias Sippel, 36, stepped in for Omlin during that match but struggled, conceding three goals in the second half. His underwhelming display has sparked speculation that Gladbach may turn to Cardoso, a promising young talent, for Saturday’s fixture.

Already a senior international for Luxembourg, Cardoso is regarded as a rising star. However, the key question remains—does Gladbach coach Gerardo Seoane believe he is ready for Bundesliga action, or will he prioritize experience by sticking with Sippel?

Speaking to Bild on Tuesday, Seoane confirmed that a decision would be made in the coming days.

“Tuesday and Wednesday are our most intense training sessions. We will evaluate and decide during the week,” he said.

Commenting on Cardoso, Seoane expressed his admiration for the young keeper:

“He has made significant strides in terms of personality and mentality. His instincts and reactions are strong, and we all believe in his abilities here.

“We have full confidence in both him and Tobias Sippel.”
