The Barclays Women’s Championship has officially announced the winners of its January awards, celebrating standout performances across the league.
Ellie Mason Shines with Double Recognition
Birmingham City’s Ellie Mason has been crowned Player of the Month after topping both the public and panel vote. The dynamic midfielder played a pivotal role in Birmingham’s attacking success, finding the net in a commanding 3-1 victory over Portsmouth and again in a hard-fought 3-1 defeat to Bristol City.
Mason outperformed tough competition, beating Charlton Athletic’s Charlotte Newsham, Portsmouth’s Sophie Quirk, and Sunderland’s Katie Kitching to claim the award.
Her stellar performances didn’t stop there—Mason also scooped the Goal of the Month award for her brilliant strike against Portsmouth. The Northern Ireland international’s goal captivated fans, earning the most votes ahead of contenders Kayleigh Barton, Eleanor Dale, Shania Hayles, and Sophie Quirk.
Karen Hills Named Manager of the Month
Meanwhile, the League Managers’ Association has recognized Karen Hills as January’s Manager of the Month for the Barclays Women’s Championship. A panel of esteemed football figures—including Faye White, Mo Marley MBE, Brent Hills, Jen O’Neill, Alan Curbishley, and Mollie Kmita—selected Hills for the honor.
Under her leadership, Charlton Athletic secured a flawless six points from two league matches in January, keeping their promotion hopes alive. The Addicks currently sit in fifth place, just five points behind the league leaders with a game in hand, making them strong contenders in the race for the top.
With Mason and Hills leading the charge, January was a month of standout performances in the Barclays Women’s Championship—setting the stage for an exciting run-in to the season.
