Khvicha Kvaratskhelia completes PSG switch to end transfer saga

Khvicha Kvaratskhelia, the talented Georgian forward, has completed a transfer to Paris Saint-Germain from Serie A club Napoli. The deal, which will keep him at PSG until 2029, was officially announced by the French club on Friday.

While the financial specifics of the transfer were not disclosed, reports suggest that PSG paid €70 million (£59m) for the 23-year-old, with additional add-ons included in the agreement.

In a statement, PSG expressed their excitement, saying: “We are thrilled to announce the signing of Khvicha Kvaratskhelia. The 23-year-old winger, who will wear the number 7 shirt, becomes the first Georgian player in the club’s history.”

Kvaratskhelia’s move comes after unsuccessful talks with Napoli regarding a contract extension. The winger’s current deal, set to run until 2027, was left unrenewed, prompting Kvaratskhelia to request his departure last week. He had been previously linked with PSG during the summer transfer window, though he ultimately stayed with Napoli for one more season under new coach Antonio Conte.

Having joined Napoli in 2022, Kvaratskhelia quickly made his mark as one of Serie A’s top players, contributing 12 goals and 13 assists in 34 matches and playing a key role in Napoli’s first Scudetto win in 33 years.

PSG president Nasser Al-Khelaifi praised Kvaratskhelia’s skills and determination, saying: “Khvicha is one of the most exciting players in world football—an exceptional talent who plays with heart and fights for his team. He was extremely determined to join our great club, and I have no doubt that he will achieve great things here.”

So far this season, Kvaratskhelia has scored five goals and provided three assists in 19 appearances across all competitions. Reflecting on his move, he said: “It’s a dream to be here. I’ve heard so many positive things about PSG. I’m filled with pride to join this amazing club and can’t wait to wear the new colours.”
