Barcelona loanee Vitor Roque is one step away from joining Palmeiras, after the Brazilian club and the ‘Cules’ have reached a 25 million euro deal for the player. Betis, where the young striker plays on loan, will receive compensation for the player’s mid-season departure.
What initially seemed like a dream move for Vitor Roque has quickly turned into a disappointment. The young winger, who made the leap from Athletico Paranaense to Barcelona with high expectations, is now set to leave Spain just a year and a half after arriving in La Liga.
Roque joined Barça in January of last season, hoping to bolster Xavi Hernandez’s squad, but the Catalan coach showed little interest in giving him opportunities. Limited playing time led to his loan move to Real Betis last summer, where he has fared better, scoring seven goals in 33 appearances.
Despite his improvement at Betis, the 19-year-old striker now appears to be on the verge of a return to Brazil, with Palmeiras securing a deal for his transfer. The Brazilian club has reached an agreement with Barcelona for €25 million, allowing Barça to recoup most of the €30 million they originally paid Paranaense. Meanwhile, Betis will receive financial compensation for the early termination of his loan spell.
