Bo Henriksen: “It was not a good game”

Mainz momentarily climbed to fifth place after a 2-0 win over St. Pauli. But their coach wasn’t too pleased about the performance.

After a lackluster first half, Mainz 05 found their rhythm after the break, securing a victory over St. Pauli with goals from halftime substitute Lee Jae-Sung and Paul Nebel. Despite failing to register a single shot on target, the visitors had their chances to take the lead before Mainz turned the tide.

“It wasn’t a good game at all,” admitted Bo Henriksen post-match. “But grinding out results in games like these is the next step for Mainz. That’s the biggest positive for us today,” the Danish coach added.

Meanwhile, St. Pauli boss Alexander Blessin was forced to watch from the stands after serving a suspension for accumulating four yellow cards, the latest picked up in last week’s loss to Freiburg. “We were close and probably deserved a draw,” said the 51-year-old, frustrated by yet another late setback.

With Peter Nemeth stepping in on the touchline, Blessin endured a frustrating evening away from the dugout. “I don’t need this experience again, to be honest. That’s for sure. Next time, I’ll just take another sip from the bottle and keep my mouth shut.”
