According to Sport Bild, Dayot Upamecano is on the brink of signing a contract extension with Bayern Munich, with negotiations already at an advanced stage.
The French defender’s current deal at the Allianz Arena runs until 2026, but Bayern are eager to secure his long-term future to prevent any risk of losing him on a free transfer when his contract enters its final stretch in 18 months.
Addressing the situation, Bayern’s sporting director, Christoph Freund, confirmed the club’s clear intent to keep Upamecano at the heart of their defense.
“Upa knows that we absolutely want to extend his contract. We’ve had very positive discussions with him, and our goal is to finalize an extension with him soon,” Freund stated.
At 26, Upamecano has shown significant growth this season. Despite some early adaptation struggles under Vincent Kompany, he has evolved into a defensive pillar for Bayern in recent months, solidifying his role as a key figure in the backline.
While Upamecano’s extension appears to be progressing smoothly, Bayern still faces crucial negotiations with Joshua Kimmich and Leroy Sané. Kimmich, although expected to stay, remains hesitant to commit to a new contract at this stage. Meanwhile, Sané, who has expressed his desire to continue at the club, is still waiting for a formal offer from Bayern’s board.
