Antonio Conte will be without midfielder Andre-Frank Zambo Anguissa for Napoli’s crucial Serie A showdown against Inter on Saturday due to an injury sustained during the final moments of their 2-1 loss to Como on Sunday.
Napoli Hit Hard by Zambo Anguissa Injury Ahead of Inter Clash
The Partenopei have confirmed that the Cameroon international has injured his soleus muscle in his right leg, ruling him out of what is expected to be one of Napoli’s most important games of the season. The injury occurred late in the match against Como, and Napoli has acknowledged that this setback will prevent Zambo Anguissa from featuring against Inter.
In preparation for the weekend’s high-stakes match, Conte had initially kept Zambo Anguissa out of the starting lineup as a precaution. The midfielder was on four yellow cards for the season, meaning he was just one booking away from a suspension. To avoid that risk, Conte gave Philip Billing the nod instead. However, with Napoli behind in the second half, Conte brought on Zambo Anguissa for a brief cameo, which unfortunately ended with the player sidelined due to the injury.
At this point, Napoli have not confirmed how long the 29-year-old will be out, though reports suggest that his recovery will be evaluated on a daily basis.
With Zambo Anguissa unavailable, Billing, who is on loan from AFC Bournemouth, is the natural choice to step into the midfield role. Meanwhile, Scotland international Billy Gilmour, who has only played 10 minutes in the last seven Serie A matches, remains an unlikely option for a starting role.
