Sergio Ramos is officially a new player at Monterrey, one of the most important teams in Mexican football. The 38-year-old centre-back will join fellow Spaniards Oliver Torres and Sergio Canales.
Spanish defender Sergio Ramos has officially joined ‘Rayados’ of Monterrey, the Mexican club announced on social media Thursday night. The veteran center-back arrives as a marquee signing for the Liga MX side, where he will reunite with fellow Spaniards Oliver Torres and Sergio Canales. Monterrey also confirmed that Ramos will wear the number ‘93’ jersey.
Ramos had been a free agent since leaving Sevilla at the end of last season, marking the end of his second stint with the Andalusian club. His final competitive match was a 2-1 loss to Barcelona on May 26, 2024. Before returning to Spain, he spent two seasons at Paris Saint-Germain.
The move to Monterrey was orchestrated by club president José Antonio Noriega, who traveled to Madrid to finalize the deal in person. Speaking to El País, Noriega described Ramos’ arrival as a major boost for a team with ambitions to make a global impact.
With an illustrious career that includes four Champions League titles, six domestic league triumphs, a World Cup, and two European Championships, Ramos is among the most decorated footballers in history. His legendary status at Real Madrid remains undeniable, and even the Spanish giants acknowledged his move to Mexico.
“Sergio Ramos will play for C.F. Monterrey. The number chosen by a legend of our club: our 93rd minute. A tribute to all Madridismo, the memory of a moment that changed our history. We are always grateful. Best of luck and success,” tweeted Real Madrid, referencing Ramos’ iconic last-minute equalizer in the 2014 Champions League final.
