Rangers takeover: Paraag Marathe says San Francisco 49ers ‘always looking at other opportunities’ as he addresses potential investment

San Francisco 49ers executive vice-president of football operations and Leeds United chair Paraag Marathe among consortium of investors in talks over multi-million-pound takeover of Scottish Premiership club Rangers; discussions are ongoing with no deal agreed yet

San Francisco 49ers executive Paraag Marathe has acknowledged that they are “always exploring new opportunities” following reports that American investors are in discussions over a multi-million-pound takeover of Rangers.

Marathe, who has been with the 49ers for 24 years, is among those involved in talks regarding a potential acquisition of the Scottish club. Currently serving as chairman of Leeds United, he addressed the speculation for the first time at the Financial Times Business of Football Summit.

“I can’t really comment on whatever rumours might be circulating,” he stated. “But we are always evaluating other opportunities. I believe it’s possible to replicate the passion I have for Leeds elsewhere.”

He emphasized what they look for in a club: “We seek teams with strong foundations, a rich history of success, and significant growth potential. If you’re deeply passionate about sport and see it as a way of life, as I do, then there’s always room in your heart for more.”
