Marotta: ‘Inter need encouragement, aim to go all the way’

Inter President Beppe Marotta has rallied the squad ahead of tonight’s crucial clash with Genoa, emphasizing the need for “encouragement” and reaffirming their ambition to compete for every trophy.

Kickoff at San Siro is set for 19:45 GMT. You can stay updated with all the build-up and live action from today’s four Serie A fixtures through the Liveblog.

It has been a challenging week for the Nerazzurri. After having the chance to claim the top spot in Serie A, they instead slipped two points behind following a disappointing Derby d’Italia loss to Juventus. To make matters worse, goalkeeper Yann Sommer suffered a fractured thumb, ruling him out for three weeks. His absence means Josep Martinez will make his Inter debut against his former club, Genoa.

Amid the turbulence, a high-level meeting took place at the training ground, attended by President Marotta. Speaking to DAZN, he explained the purpose of the summit:

“We are coming off an undeserved defeat, and it was only right for us to come together and reinforce the team’s unity. In my position, I can provide additional encouragement,” Marotta stated. “I simply motivated the players. We have ongoing discussions with the coach, and nothing has changed in that regard.”

Marotta Backs Inter’s Ambitions

Inter are heading into a defining stretch of the season. They face Lazio in the Coppa Italia quarter-final on Tuesday before a massive Scudetto showdown with Napoli on Saturday. Just days later, they travel to Rotterdam for the Champions League Round of 16 first-leg clash against Feyenoord on March 5.

“The mentality remains unchanged—we are Inter, and we must compete in every tournament with the goal of going all the way,” Marotta affirmed.

“With seven games in just 20 days, it’s a tough schedule, and we hope to avoid further injuries. Our goal is to fight for everything. If another team proves superior, we will recognize their efforts and applaud them.”

Inter’s Transfer Strategy

Inter have successfully managed their finances in recent seasons by planning ahead and securing free agents well in advance. When asked if they are applying the same strategy for the 2025-26 campaign, Marotta confirmed:

“We are constantly working through our scouting network, identifying opportunities, and seeking players who fit our vision for the future.”
